2011 Bursaries
In 2011 the Foundation received 25 student employment bursary applications. Once again, four bursaries were awarded--each in the amount of $3,750.
Habitat Acquisition Trust - The student will assist HAT with a private land stewardship initiative in the Bilston and Latoria watersheds. Interacting with non-profit and government staff, as well as landowners, the student will have the opportunity to help determine appropriate land care prescriptions for small acreages and hobby farms in the Capital Regional District of southern Vancouver Island.
Langley Environmental Partners Society - The LEPS Sustainable Agriculture Intern will deliver outreach to Langley's rural and urban communities on land management topics such as surface and groundwater stewardship, manure management, and sustainable agriculture. The student will have the opportunity to develop education and outreach events, and assist with groundwater data collection to support better land stewardship.
Pacific Community Resources Society - The student will work with the City of Vancouver, Metro Vancouver, PCRS and other non-profits to assist with an environmental scan and strategic plan on establishing building deconstruction and associated materials reuse enterprises in the city. Such initiatives will support building waste reduction and the emerging "green" economy among non-profit and private sector organizations.
Village of Pemberton - The student will assist in the research and revision of a bylaw and three major Village plans, including Pemberton's Official Community Plan.
