Sustainable Funding for Watershed Governance Initiative Task Force

The task force will explore and test funding mechanisms, build capacity in BC’s watershed governance community, and foster collaboration among organizations.

Establishing successful watershed governance in BC requires sustainable funding at the local level. Key stakeholders in watershed governance and management, including local governments, are not necessarily fully aware of potential funding mechanisms at their disposal.

In partnership with the Ministry of Environment, REFBC co-hosted a Sustainable Watershed Governance Funding Workshop in July 2015. At the workshop, BC water experts and resource guests discussed funding models for watershed governance that could be applied to local watersheds. The workshop led to the creation of the Sustainable Funding for Watershed Governance Initiative (SFWGI), a taskforce that will test and share learnings for financing watershed governance and management.
