The Real Estate Foundation of BC’s Board of Governors approved 12 grants at the Foundation’s June 2016 grants meeting, totaling $567,675. To date, REFBC has awarded more than $74 million in grants to support sustainable land use projects in communities across BC.

June 2016 grants are listed in alphabetical order below.

Cool North Shore Society to undertake research and planning with an aim to engage North Shore REALTORS® in incorporating home energy efficiency into their marketing and sales activities. ($7,914)

Cowichan Station Area Association to complete an ecosystem-based conservation plan for the Koksilah watershed and collaborate with land use planners to incorporate findings into their decision-making. ($29,700)

Ecotrust Canada to help in ensuring that First Nations have access to practical tools to assess land and resource options on their traditional territories. ($46,256)

Engineering Leadership Council to develop two engineering case studies on capital infrastructure projects that incorporate social and environmental outcomes into project planning, design and implementation. ($10,000)

Evergreen to collaborate on generating recommendations for Water Sustainability Act (WSA) regulations that will support holistic water management practices and improve land-use decisions in urban areas. ($27,905)

Fraser Basin Council to begin a three-year project to build a BC network of First Nations communities and agencies to reduce energy use and improve livability of housing and community buildings. ($150,000)

HUB Cycling will engage Metro Vancouver municipal and development professionals to create information packages and discussion papers that illustrate opportunities in policy and design to support active transportation options. ($12,000)

Islands Trust Fund to assist local governments, First Nations, conservation groups, and others in implementing the 2015 Conservation Strategy for Coastal Douglas Fir (CDG) biogeoclimatic zone and incorporating the findings with land use plans. ($5,000)

Okanagan Nation Alliance to address future water shortages in the Okanagan through the development of community-based watershed management plans and a pilot implementation plan founded on local indigenous (Syilx) knowledge, standards and policies. ($50,000)

Rivershed Society of BC to implement the Watershed Solutions program, which supports participants in designing and implementing community action projects, as part of the Sustainable Living Leadership Program. ($20,000)

Stewardship Centre for BC to develop, integrate and broaden the impact of two major aspects of the Green Shores Program, which promotes sustainable use of the shoreline. ($106,700)

Watershed Watch Salmon Society to implement the “Lower Coquitlam River Watershed Plan”, broaden support for its use, and increase financial sustainability of the Coquitlam River Watershed Roundtable (CRWR). ($102,200)
